Ingredients
  

For the Patties
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
For the Gravy
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large onion sliced
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley optional

Method
 

Directions
  1. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Form into 4–6 oval patties.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the patties for about 4 minutes per side until they are browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the unsalted butter, sliced onions, and mushrooms. Sauté over medium heat for 8–10 minutes until caramelized.
  4. Stir in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Mix cornstarch with cold water to form a slurry. Whisk into the gravy until thickened.
  6. Return the patties to the pan, cover partially, and simmer for 15–20 minutes until fully cooked.
  7. Adjust seasoning, garnish with parsley if desired, and serve over mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice.

Notes
