How to Make Penne Arrabbiata
  1. Boil water: Start by bringing a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook until al dente, about 11 minutes. Remember to reserve 1 cup of pasta water before draining.
  2. Sauté garlic: In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced garlic and sauté until golden, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Toast red pepper flakes: Stir in the crushed red pepper flakes. Toast for about 30 seconds.
  4. Simmer tomatoes: Pour in the crushed San Marzano tomatoes and let it simmer for about 15 minutes. Season with salt, black pepper, and sugar if desired.
  5. Combine pasta and sauce: Add the drained penne to the sauce, using reserved pasta water to adjust the sauce's consistency.
