How to Make Easy Mushroom Gravy
- Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat and wait until frothy before adding mushrooms. Cook for 3–4 minutes until browned.
- Stir in finely chopped onion (or shallots) and minced garlic. Cook for another 5–6 minutes until softened.
- Sprinkle flour over the mushroom mixture and stir well. Cook for 1–2 minutes to form a roux.
- Slowly pour in the vegetable broth, stirring constantly. Bring to a gentle simmer for 4–5 minutes until thickened.
- Mix in heavy cream and thyme, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
- Add fresh parsley if desired. Adjust consistency with broth or water if needed.
- Serve warm over mashed potatoes, pasta, or roasted vegetables.
