Preparation
- Combine the flour and salt in a large bowl. Mix in the cold Crisco or butter until it resembles coarse meal.
- Create a well in the mixture and add cold water. Gently mix to combine and chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
- Roll out one disc of the dough on a floured surface to form the base of the pie and place it in your pie plate.
- Prepare the lattice topping by rolling out the second disc of dough and cutting it into strips.
Filling
- Mix the blackberries with sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, lemon zest, and vanilla extract in a large bowl.
- Pour the filling into your pie crust. Arrange the lattice strips over the filling.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Brush the lattice top with the egg wash and sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake for 45 to 60 minutes, or until the filling is bubbling and the crust is golden brown.
- Allow the pie to cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
